The Sopranos, Imus and everybody else
The drunken Monopoly game on last night's "Soprano's" premiere was marked by one note of pathos by sad sack Bobby Bacala. Watching Tony and Janice hissing and striking like a couple of vipers, Bobby said, "You Sopranos - you always go too far.''
True enough, but they are not the only ones.
Don Imus went too far in his nasty characterization of the Rutgers women's basketball team.
And now clergy like Al Sharpton and Buster Soaries are going too far in demanding that he be fired.
We all go too far sometimes, although, unlike Imus, we're not paid to do it.
But if somebody goes too far, the answer is not going too far. It's ignoring the hateful or spiteful speech or countering it with good speech -- not bludgeoning the speaker into submission.

Al Sharpton still hasn't said he was sorry for calling Jews "white interlopers" and what ever happened to Tawana Brawley?
Imus has been doing these types of parodies and comments (against everyone- all genders, races, religions) for over 30 years on radio/TV..why the surprise? I don't think he's a racist..he's a humorist who happens to offend someone who is the target that particular day..he is called white trailer cowboy trash,ugly, corpse-like, etc and he laughs it off..he even calls his environmentalist wife Deirdre a "green ho"..it's all in fun and I think the world has gone too PC..if you don't like him (as with Howard Stern TV /radio jock)..turn the dial...
Well sometimes it happens that one is NOT listening to IMUS, but every other form of media gossips the hideous remark so that no matter what, unless you live under a rock, one would have to know about it. IMUS, like Howard Stern is infamous. "Nappy haired hos" in regard to a women's college basketball team is obviously not going to be palatable language to the mainstream.
I don't see how that comment is "all in fun".
Al Sharpton is one of biggest hypocrites out there..he fraternizes with his hip-hop,gangsta celebs (36 Mafia, 50-Cent, Snoop Dog, etc)..some of biggest offenders of degrading black women is by black men -esp in that music culture (look at their videos)..where is his moral outrage to ouster and boycott them?

you know it's the end of the world when Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are the moral compasses for their race..both bigots and racists (anti-white and anti-Jew) and condone degrading culture their own men inflict about Black women..so there is no red herring,Ray, those are documented facts..to quote Al Sharpton.."it's abhorrible"..I think he was trying to say abhorrent but I guess he hasn't learned English yet...I guess someone can "aks" him what he was trying to say...
To hear Ray decry bigotry is like listening to Charles Manson bemoan the number of people murdered in California last year.
I agree with you Ray, that such vile language is unacceptable and should not be used against any race, color, creed, or diversity.

And to think: I doubted Momma when she told me that if I lived long enough, I would see it all. The very same guy that once told us, "Thus, The Word Of God is whatever you want it to be" is now engaged in revisionist history. Who would have "thunk" it possible? (Thanks again, Ray. God knows I never get tired of that particular quote.)
Admit as much, Ray: You work on Madison Avenue as one of those spin doctors for celebrities that say or do stupid things, right? Folks like Michael "Kramer" Richards, Jimmy The Greek, Don Imus, Marv Albert, Paris Hilton, et al. What's the first rule in your business? "The public will never remember what was said or done yesterday? Today is all the 'history' that matters?" Is that how it works, Ray? If so, please kindly post your fax number here. I support a Catholic charity, Dismas House, that is involved with assimilating convicted felons back into society and the workforce. I know a couple of convicts that you might be real interested in hiring. I am sure they would love to fax their resumes to you.
hey papinian you should worry about assimilating yourself into society because you're obviously out of touch with reality...that's the true felony..are you sure you and anonymous -wacky one-haven't been cellmates with those other felons? I can see you all in your prison Bible class finding God and religion (your versions, of course)..those poor felons having to listen to your propaganda..talk about a captive audience...yikes! good luck with the job hunt with you as their reference...
hey ray, you know I am thinking same thing as you about the convicted felons..(do any of them having matching black collars to go with their prison stripes?)unfortunately many of those criminal pedophile priests from 50's,60's etc still running around unprosecuted and protected by their fellow clergy,bishops,parishioners and even the Pope...and they say they are men of God..which God is that I wonder?

I have been seeing you almost everyday now on our national networks
with your opinions about white America. It appears you only focus on
the white's of this country, why don't you go to your local gas station
and listen to what I have to hear almost ever time I fill up and as far
as that goes just sitting in traffic listening to what for the most part come from
your own peoples broadcast for everyone to hear ? I hear ever name you can imagine
plus the f word over and over for all the young and old to hear. I hear it everyday
and you think we aren't offended too ? OPEN YOUR EYE'S or just SHUT THEM and
listen ! You are really making people take a second look at your motives as a
person who claims to have faith. I hope you use that same zeal to correct your
