Getting away with something less than murder

We've all gotten away with stuff that we shouldn't have. The cop that lets you off with a warning instead of a ticket. The extension granted on a term paper. The friend that stays your friend after a misunderstanding.
This is grace, and life would be a lot harsher if it wasn't around.
That said, grace is a gift, not an entitlement, and if you get your just desserts, you can't say you were entitled to cherries jubilee.
Now that the long arm of the law has finally groped Paris Hilton and plans to have her spend 45 days in the slammer for driving with a suspended license, she can cry and moan all she wants, but she can't cry "foul'' because justice is finally done. In fact, the more stamps one's little foot and says "No fair!'' the more likely that, in the future, you will be expected to hew to every jot and tittle of life's expectations.

she claims her lawyer never told her that her license was suspended and that she has "people" read her mail and that's why she wasn't aware of the legal papers, etc and fines mailed to her...puhleez...she obviously needs to hire someone who can read the mail out loud to her or at least inform her when something important is sent to her - other than a party invite, premiere or her next hair bleaching appt. (another hardship she will have to endure behind bars - no hair coloring or manicures/pedicures; now that's cruel and unusual punishment)..FREE PARIS! FREE PARIS! - NOT!

This is bad. What's the media going to do for 45 days without Paris? Heaven forbid that they find themselves having to report on less pressing matters like the war in Iraq, the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Republican war on the Constitution, the Republican war on the environment, media consolidation at the expense of meaningful news reporting or the rise in terrorism around the world.

Hi Ray ..will I see you at the "Free Paris" rally Thurs. in SoHo? How will I know it's you since we've never met? Will you be carrying a special placard? Gee, without Paris or Anna Nicole to report on, I guess that leaves Hasslehoff for now..slim pickin's for the stalkarazzi the next couple of months..

I hope there's not another terrorist attack on June 5th when Paris is due to report to the LA slammer- how will the cable bigwigs decide which is BREAKING NEWS?

It is hard to stomach all the nonsense that we see on television, especially the antics of the rich and ridiculous in Hollywood. Why do these people even get noticed? Do they do something productive in society? If Paris Hilton is learns something from this experience, I will be surprised, but happily so. There's always hope, even for her.

Lighten up, Ray! All hope is not lost. There is always American Idol to talk about. Besides, Britney's hair should a fairly decent length by then. Anna Nicole's baby's lawyer will probably hold a couple of press conferences while Paris is locked up. And who could ever tire of talking about Prince Harry, Prince William and who those rascals are dating this week?

Keep the faith, brother, keep the faith!

I'll be there. But... didn't we free Paris once before? Um, I may be thinking of something else. Well, either way, I'll be the guy wearing an O.J. mask and signing autographs as "The Guy Who Really Did It"

I'll try but... no promises. Hey, maybe we can start a game in which the object is to figure out exactly what Paris Hilton does for a living! That should occupy us for the full 45 days.

I think she confused the two words - philanthropist and philanderer..

Now she's getting 23 days instead of 45...we could have predicted that.

She won't know the difference, though. She hasn't got that many fingers and toes.
