Hat's off to the Oscars
And, of course, it took those brave souls in Hollywood to do it, awarding an Oscar for best original song to a little ditty titled " It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp.''
Oh, sure, there are songs about heroes and the bravest and finest among us, but rarely do we hear a paean to those entrepreneurs who sell women.
Not many of the lyrics are capable of being repeated here.
Let these two lines be representative: "That's the way the game goes, gotta keep it strictly pimpin/Gotta have my hustle tight, makin change off these women, yeah.''
Now, I'm a liberal guy, First Amendment and all that, but this is really a bit much. Not the song, not even the words, but an Academy Award.
Am I missing something here, or am I right to be disgusted?

Why did it win? Maybe because it was integral to the movie, rather than just tacked on to the closing credits. Maybe because it stuck in Academy members' heads better than the other songs (it's hard to forget a song with that title).
I'm not thrilled with the content of the song (I haven't liked rap since Public Enemy was big), but honestly I was more bothered by the presentation. Rap plus misogynistic lyrics is at least a tried-and-true combination. Rap plus "interpretive dance" is a crime against humanity.
It's great to see Hollywood reward modern day Amos and Andy's.Ho's bitches, and guns really promote "civil rights". Just ask George Clooney.
Seems like the Academy just found their modern day Amos and Andy's.That must be what you call "progress" in liberal Hollywood.
My husband and I didn't finish watching "Hustle and Flow." We found the movie gross and depressing. It boggles the mind that the song of a Hip Hop pimp could win an Oscar. But, it did. God help us.
There is a strong movement in the southwest part of the country intending to reclaim lost land to Mexico. I propose that we give Mexico the part of California that includes Hollywood. By the time Mexico realizes that we stuck them with our refuse, it will be too late.
